Critical Dialogues Forum Event Recap 2018

The Global Leadership League offered a co-hosted hands-on critical dialogue session with The Forum on Education Abroad at their annual conference in March 2018 Boston Massachusetts.

A 2017 Survey by CUPA determined that the percentage of women holding leadership positions in higher education remains at less than 30% (Bichsel and McChesney, 2017). How might these statistics compare with women leaders in education abroad? Are there practices and support structures that we should change to better address gender equality and leadership in the field? What roles should authenticity and influence play in redefining successful leadership for women? This Critical Dialogue encouraged education abroad professionals to identify challenges and next steps to change the future of women’s leadership in education abroad.

The event was conducted by Francine Crystal (President, Crystal Clear Consulting) and Cori Filson (Director, Off-Campus Study & Exchanges, Skidmore College)

"Attending the Forum’s Critical Dialogue on Women and Leadership allowed me to not only reflect on my current leadership skills and attributes, but also helped me to conceptualize the kind of leader I want to be in the future. The conversations I had with the other participants caused me to be introspective and critical – in a positive way – to make me more aware of who I am and want to be. As a result of the conversations led by Cori and Francine, I am now better equipped to lead my office and continue developing my leadership skills. I’m so glad that Forum facilitated this Critical Dialogue!"  Camila Nardozzi, Director, Office of international Education, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Harvard University.
