This certificate program is offered to League members as a complementary outcomes driven capstone to our Summer 4-part webinar series.  You do not have to be enrolled in this certificate to attend the webinars.  Be sure to register for all webinars you plan to attend.

To receive this certificate, participants will be expected to complete the following:

    1.  Attend in person or listen to all FOUR webinars by the expected completion date.

    2.  By the end of the program, complete the workbook for this program and submit via email by Friday, August 30, 2024.

    3.  Attend TWO virtual chats that are one week after each webinar to discuss your thoughts on the material, engage with others, work through challenges you may have and learn from others.

Participant workbooks will be reviewed by League guides for this program and certificates will be issued virtually with a LinkedIn badge as part of the award.

MORE INFORMATION: The Global Leadership League and our Advocate partner CIS Abroad have teamed up to offer a virtual webinar series and certificate this summer to help you enter the new academic year empowered and ready to rock-n-roll.

As international educators, our roles encompass a range of skills that contribute to the overall success of our team and achievement of our goals. Many of us are thrust into managing people or budgets without any formal training or education. What to do?

We must understand our own strengths and challenges, know how to use our connections, learn how to analyze the right data to inform decisions, and ultimately apply our skills to advocate for change for ourselves or our organizations.

In this webinar series you will learn how to:

    • Vanquish Imposter Thoughts by learning the 5 strategies to address them.
    • Leverage Your Networks through understanding the barriers you face and why.
    • Harness the Power of Data so you have the info you need to make decisions.
    • Advocate for What you Need by building a business case that appeals to logic AND emotion

This series consists of 4 webinars PLUS the opportunity to complete a certificate program where you will engage with a personal learning workbook and meet in a few chat rooms to discuss. This is an amazing way to showcase your knowledge and also network and learn from others.  You do not have to be signed up for the certificate to attend any of the webinars.  The webinars are only available (and free) to League members and the certificate will cost $99 USD for League members.

Please note you must register for EACH webinar you plan to attend PLUS register and pay the nominal fee for the certificate so that we can ensure you receive all the appropriate log in details. Start your registration for each event at our events page

Webinar #3  Harness the power of using the right data.

The Challenge: It’s hard to know how to find, analyze and use data to see if you are being successful in achieving your goals or in making your case for more resources. We may have heard the term “data-informed decision-making” but not know how it applies to our work. With so much data at our fingertips, it’s hard to know what data to pay attention to that help us work smarter and not harder.

The Impact of not addressing it: Digital technology has given us unprecedented access to data. If we don’t know what information to look at, we risk making decisions based on the wrong information OR WORSE, we don’t make decisions due to analysis paralysis.

    Learning Outcomes:

    • Learn key data terminologies such as conversion rates, KPI’s, etc, as they relate to our field.
    • Understand what it means to analyze and mine data.
    • Identify tools and strategies related to data that can help you address your barriers to success.

Host: Scott Tayloe, COO, CIS Abroad

Guest Star: Marci Heidt, Assistant Director of Advising and Programming, Global Carolina Education Abroad Office, University of South Carolina

Writing well helps you advance in your career, not just because people are persuaded by the insights you convey in a piece of writing but because writing helps you generate those insights in the first place. Writing helps you think. Whether you want to start a Substack, write for academic journals, produce a report, design a program, create a social media campaign, you need to start with telling a story.

Which means you need to find the story. Not just an opening anecdote to set the scene, but the story that illuminates your project—that is, the story of what drives you to write about this particular subject.

In this workshop, attendees will engage in ‘find the story’ writing exercises from the field of creative nonfiction that can help your writing in any project become more composed: clearer, more textured, more meaningful.

    Presenter: Dr. Amy Muse

Dr. Amy Muse is Professor of English at the University of St. Thomas in Minnesota. She teaches courses in essay-writing, professional editing, and dramatic literature and has written books on playwrights Sarah Ruhl and Annie Baker and essays on theater and travel. She has presented on the use of reflective writing in study abroad at the Forum on Education Abroad; directed over a dozen study abroad programs in Athens, Rome, Istanbul, and Glasgow; held a Fulbright award in Greece; and currently serves on the editorial board of Frontiers: The Interdisciplinary Journal of Study Abroad.

Webinar #4  Advocate for what you need

The Challenge: It’s hard to know how to advocate for our own or our office’s needs, especially in a resource-scarce environment. Those needs might be: more staff, higher payer, more benefits or a change to office culture, or other tangible/intangible resources. No matter what, we have to be willing to get uncomfortable, be okay with uncertainty, and build a business case for support.

The Impact (of not addressing this): If we do not know how to harness our power (ourselves, our networks, our data, our resources) to ask for what we need, we will stay exactly where we are. That’s the opposite of progress and the opposite of how we learn and grow.

    Learning Outcomes:

    • Learn about Cialdini’s “Six Principles of Persuasion” and set your priorities.
    • Understand what influences decision-making in you and in the person/s you are trying to influence.
    • Learn how to use verbal and nonverbal language for positive effect.
    • Learn how to build your business case through appealing to logic AND emotion.

As we prepare for the end of summer and the beginning of the fall, take time to pause and reflect. Self-care is not an indulgence; it is part of effective leadership.

Join us in this transformative workshop, where you'll refine and elevate your leadership through the integration of mindfulness practices. Whether you're an established or emerging leader, or just starting your mindful leadership journey, this workshop provides a unique opportunity to enhance both individual and workplace effectiveness and resiliency, including:

    • The essence of mindfulness: Understand how mindfulness fosters focus, self-awareness, compassion, and empathy. Learn practical strategies to incorporate into your leadership routine.

    • Mindful practices - The breath as a foundation: Recognize the pivotal role of breath in mindfulness, bridging personal and professional realms. Explore various breathing techniques and their application in leadership contexts.

    • Workplace mindfulness: Learn practical approaches to implementing mindfulness in the workplace. Address challenges and resistance to mindfulness adoption in a professional environment.

    Outcomes for this workshop include:

Increased Self-Awareness:  Gain a deeper understanding of yourself, leading to increased self-awareness. Recognize your strengths, challenges, and potential triggers, enabling you to make more conscious choices in your professional and personal lives.

Improved Resilience: Participants learn practical strategies to build resilience, enabling one to lead or participate in teams more effectively through times of uncertainty and change. Mindfulness develops the ability to remain calm and composed under pressure, adapt more readily to change, and bounce back from adversity with greater ease

Foster a Culture of Well-Being: Understand how to cultivate a culture of well-being within your organizations by promoting mindfulness practices among teams. By prioritizing employee well-being and creating a supportive environment for mindfulness practice, you will have a healthier, more engaged and productive team.

Leadership Effectiveness: Ultimately, as a participant, you will emerge from the workshop with refined or new leadership skills and a deeper understanding of how mindfulness can elevate your effectiveness. You will be better equipped to make decisions, inspire and motivate your team and support colleagues to create a positive impact within your organization and community.
